Xavier Rudd is a world ambassador from Australia and his diplomatic bag consists of Yadeki’s, Steel Guitars, Stomp Boxes and so much more. He’s teamed up with bassist Tio Moloantoa and drummer Andile Nqubezelo, both extremely talented musicians. They have come together to lay down some aboriginal  funk under the name Izintaba on the new CD Koonyum Sun, Rudd’s 6th studio album.

Mixture of Sorts was lucky enough to have Xavier Rudd on the phone for an interview. He didn’t mind us recording the interview, so of course we did. The audio is below.

Xavier Rudd
"Dark Shades of Blue"

"Dark" it is, musically at least, this message from old Oz. Rudd leans on his slide to great effect, at turns haunting and ragged, bright and filled with hooks arabesque and Jamaican. Are they barbed? That is the question.

Rudd is not afraid to evoke the ancients - Aborigine instruments, choirs of lost languages. It's an ethereal, mesmerizing mix, a hypnotic caustic carnie, burning to your very soul.

"Occasionally I encounter a work that so eloquently describes the human condition that my futile attempts to capture its essence in a review seem almost absurd. This album is one such work.

Xavier Rudd's Dark Shades of Blue (released August 19 on Anti) is an absolute tour de force and unequivocally his most powerful work to date. "

Here's where I'd be
By Nathan Dinsdale 01/08/2008

Friday, January 11

Xavier Rudd @ House of Blues. Rudd is the Dave Matthews of Australia. Or the Jack Johnson of Canada. Or another Paul Simon in South Africa circa Graceland. Otherwise, he’s just some Aussie named Xavier Rudd using a guitar and didgeridoo to play songs about aborigines at the House of Blues.

Acclaimed Australian singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist  Xavier Rudd, left, performed at the El Rey theatre in Los Angelas while actor Matthew McConaughey was among those in attendance celebrating the June 19th release of Rudd's new album "White Moth," on Anti-Records.

eGigs.co.uk Review (Oct.2006)

Xavier Rudd’s multi-instrumental setup, which had been concealed beneath a blanket, was finally unveiled like the first public viewing of a new Jaguar Concept car. Rudd’s instruments (and there are a lot of them) are positioned in a circle around him, cocooning him in his own musical haven.
